On Saturday, August 8th, St. Tikhon chapel was blessed to host the traveling Protection of the Mother of God icon that contains a piece of the veil, or Omophorion of the Most Holy Theotokos. More than 50 people gathered to celebrate the Divine Liturgy and to venerate this relic and holy icon. The Liturgy was celebrated by Priest Joseph Winsler, with Archpriest Don Hock and Priest Peter Maris in attendance. It was wonderful to share this joyous event with the other Orthodox faithful in the Omaha area.
This icon commemorates a miraculous appearance of the Theotokos in the mid-tenth century in Constantinople, where she appeared during the All Night Vigil and placed her veil around the people protecting them.
